Goodbye Fluorescent

Hello LED!

Goodbye Fluorescent

Hello LED!

Get ready for the EU’s ban of fluorescent lights. The European Commission has updated the RoHS Directive, and fluorescent lamps will be phased out before the end of 2023.

We have prepared this guide to keep you informed of all the changes, and to present with solutions for your growth chambers.

WHY THIS REPLACEMENT OPERATION?

In line with the EU Ecodesign (SLR) Regulation initiated on September 1st, 2021 and the amended RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances) directive taking effect in early 2022, EU countries will gradually phase out a range of light sources. Notably, as of August 2023, linear fluorescent lamps (T5/T8) will no longer be allowed for sale within the European Union.

Aralab is committed to supporting its customers during this transition phase. The new LED shelves that equip the modern FitoClima chambers, were designed for easy retrofitting into existing FitoClima growth chambers equipped with fluorescent tubes. Our goal is to make the shift to LED lighting as seamless and beneficial as possible for our clients.

During the spring of 2022, the European Commission updated the RoHS Directive, imposing stricter restrictions on the handling of mercury-containing lamps, including fluorescent and ceramic halide lamps (CMH/CMD). Fluorescent lamps will be discontinued by the end of the year, and Ceramic Iodide lamps by 2028. This will lead to the total unavailability of fluorescent tubes on the market and a gradual price increase in the units that are still available.

Given this scenario, the transition to LED lighting solutions becomes a pressing need. Implementing LED solutions will ensure not only compliance with regulatory requirements, but also an efficient and sustainable response to your lighting needs.
